An ongoing project to be built at some point during 2019 in Devon, UK. Rocky is a pony. Originally intended as a field shelter for him, the project now works as a field shelter for humans, instead. A cabin for the summer months. While Rocky may never get to inhabit this ‘agricultural building’, he may fondly look at it across the field, as he chews his grass.
The footprint is small, at around 80 m^2. The site affords a panoramic view to the Exe Valley. An observational centre line between cabin and view forms the datum of design. While this desire for outwardness is to be nurtured, there is also an introversion to consider. Concealing the architecture’s presence (for programmatic, social and legal reasons) is equally important. This mediation manifests physically as a screen between cabin and world.
